ATTACHMENT DISORDERS
Information and Assessment Materials
Books
Broken Hearts; Wounded Minds
This is the only book on the symptoms, assessment, diagnosis, and tretment of Attachment Disorder taht is based upon research (over 10 years of research conducted primarily by Liz Randolph, PhD). It is designed for professionals, but it is written in language that parents can understand. It is the only source that describes an innovativetechnique for assessing for neurological damage and immaturity, as well as for Attachment Disorder, by examining children's movement abilities. It presents a completely new way of understanding the causes of Attachment Disorder, and a new approach to treating it; the humanistic approach to attachment therapy, which focuses on how children treat themselves and how much they love themselves.
Children Who Shock and Surprise (New and Improved Version)
First published about 10 years ago, thousands of parents and therapists have relied on this useful booklet as a quick guide to understanding Attachment Disorder, as well as an introduction to useful parenting and treatment techniques. This revised version incorporates research findings over the past 10 years, and summarizes the humanistic approach to parenting and treating children with Attachment Disorder. Those read4rs who have relied for years on the original version will find the informatin in this booklet to be even more useful than the information in the original version.
Researching Attachment Disorder
Designed for professionals who don't want to have to wade through the detailed research results presented in Broken Hearts; Wounded Minds, this highly useful booklet presents a summary of all of the research that has been conducted of the psychological functioning of the children with Attachment Disorder; as well as the outcome research that's been conducted on the effectiveness of intensive attachment therapy. It's designed to be easy to read and understand, yet comprehensive enough to answer questions that Social Services and Courts may have about the differences between Reactive Attachment Disorder and Attachment Disorder, and/or about the effectiveness of attachment therapy.
Video
The Movement Assessment of Attachment Disorder
This 2-hour long tape demonstrates how to conduct the movement assessment, as Dr. Randolph conducts the assessment with nine different children, ranging in age from 7 to 17. Two of these children have Attachment Disorder, but the other children have problems ranging from Asperger's Syndrome, to Bipolar Disorder, to neurological problems, to attachment problems; so that viewers can clearly see the differences in movement abilities in children with a variety of problems. Althought the vediotape can be used without the forms (the assessment can be conducted without using the forms), many professionals find the forms helpful, as they don't need to try to remember what each of the movement patterns indicates (the forms describe this).
Forms
The Movement Assessment of Attachment Disorder
Packaged in sets of 25 froms, these forms are designed to help professionals be able to score the movement abilities of children for neurological impairment, neurological immaturity, and Attachment Disorder. The directions for how to complete the movement assessment are included in Broken Hearts; Wounded Minds, and are demonstrated with nine children on The Movement Assessment of Attachment Disorder (the videotape). The movement assessment is currently the only standardized means available for assessing Attachment Disorder in children under age 5, and can be used even into adulthood.
